Creative Tech Director for Coca Cola Europe at StudioX | VML | WPP

Daniel Sáenz is the Creative Technology Director for Coca-Cola Europe at WPP, which means two things: 1) he’s usually the nerdiest person in the room, and 2) he’s in charge of building creative solutions involving emerging technologies or finding clever ways to use the ones we already have.

For the past 16 years, Daniel has been turning some pretty wild ideas into reality. We’re talking about everything from web-based video games to celebrate the launch of animated TV shows to a filter on online videos that helps colorblind soccer fans see their team’s colors. He’s also created a website that changes based on the allergens in your area (a lifesaver if you’ve got allergies) to promote allergy medicine, and even a gamified proto-metaverse to teach kids about financial education.

For the past year, Daniel has been focused on developing AI-based digital experiences for Coca-Cola. This includes projects like an app that uses a custom Convolutional Neural Network model to detect the level of effort in a selfie for Aquarius, and another app that leverages ChatGPT and DALL-E to create unique, highly personalized videos for Cappy. He is also responsible for rolling out the AI plan for the Creative Teams working for Coca-Cola in Europe.

But wait, there’s more! In addition to his Coca-Cola gig, Daniel is also a public speaker on innovation and teaches the GenAI course at Brother School of Creative. Though he started out as a psychologist and stumbled into the advertising world almost by accident, he’s worked with big names like Coca-Cola, Johnny Walker, Fiat, Bayer, Telefonica, Microsoft, Tinder, BAT, and Burger King. Along the way, he’s picked up a few awards, including a Golden Cannes Lion. Not too shabby, right?
