Stillform examines what happens when the body becomes landscape. In these portraits, crystalline growths consume and transform human figures—sometimes covering faces entirely, other times emerging from within. The subjects are caught between states, neither fully human nor completely overtaken. I'm interested in a different kind of beauty here—one that hardens rather than yields. The coral-like formations and mineral textures act as both ornament and invasion. These figures feel simultaneously preserved and threatened, decorated and consumed. I'm drawn to contrasts and tension—the push and pull between what protects and what destroys. Using AI as a collaborator, this work questions what we consider beautiful and why. It's not about resolution or answers, but about sitting with the discomfort of transformation, of beauty that might also be violence.
