Poetry in Black and White is a series of poetic artworks shaped through artificial intelligence. These works are the result of a creative exchange between human and machine – art that requires technology, yet would be unthinkable without human imagination. The series emerged in 2024 from an artistic exploration of various sref-codes in Midjourney. Using six preferred style codes, the artist developed three distinct visual series under the title The-Code-Of:# (published on Medium in 2024). Each series followed a clear conceptual focus: beginning with the imposing stag beetle, moving on to the fascinating praying mantis, and culminating in the ethereal elegance of drifting jellyfish. Despite identical prompts, each sref-code revealed a unique visual identity – resulting in macro compositions that portrayed the same motif through entirely new and stylistically distinct perspectives. Within this body of work, the jellyfish soon took on a special role. Through conceptual refinement and an ongoing dialogue with ChatGPT, they evolved from mere subjects into autonomous characters – each one marked by personality and symbolic depth. The complete series was brought to life over the course of four months. It encompasses six striking motifs presented in a range of expressive forms: fine art prints, videography, sonic collages, and fragments of poetry and prose. The technical execution combines a variety of AI-driven tools: image generation with Midjourney, video work with Runway and Luma, sound collages created with Udio, and spoken word elements produced via ElevenLabs. All textual concept and code were developed in collaboration with ChatGPT. The fine art prints are produced as 20 × 20 cm direct prints on aluminum dibond. Each motif is equipped with a vibrant-responsive code – a bridge between image and sound that allows the viewer to hear and experience the acoustic dimension of each work.
