This project is a visual interpretation of the tale Piktor’s Metamorphoses, written by Hermann Hesse in 1922. The original narrative is a poetic fable that follows Piktor, a traveler who arrives in a magical garden where everything is in constant transformation—stones, trees, animals, and hybrid beings appear in a continuous dance of metamorphoses. In this place, the desire for permanence or possession becomes a trap, while true fulfillment comes from the acceptance of change and the union of opposites. Inspired by this vision, the series of images was created using the Midjourney tool (version 6), drawing on visual references from Surrealism, fantasy, and the dream world. Only 10 images were selected, emphasizing the themes of bodily transformations, hybridism, dreams, and the process of integration between the feminine and the masculine—one of the deeper keys of the tale, where full realization occurs through the union of complementary principles. The visual style aims not to narrate a linear story, but to evoke internal atmospheres, moments of transition, and symbolic states, echoing the dreamlike spirit of Hesse’s tale. About Hermann Hesse Hermann Hesse (1877–1962) was a German-born Swiss writer, poet, and painter, known for works that explore themes of self-knowledge, spirituality, and the quest for inner integration. Among his most celebrated books are Siddhartha, Steppenwolf, and Demian. His writing, deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy and Carl Jung’s psychology, proposes inner journeys where encounters with the unconscious, the shadow, and the integration of opposites are fundamental. Piktor’s Metamorphoses, though less known than his major novels, is a brilliant synthesis of these themes in the form of a fable.
