Becoming the Wolf: A Visual Essay on Little Red Riding Hood’s Rite of Passage This project explores the myth of Little Red Riding Hood as a story of feminine transformation, sexuality, and the loss of innocence. Drawing from ancient versions—where the girl unknowingly eats her grandmother’s flesh—to literary adaptations by Perrault, the Brothers Grimm, Angela Carter, and Clarissa Pinkola Estés, the series captures the journey from prey to predator, from girl to woman to wolf. Ten images were selected from a set of fifty, created with artificial intelligence (Midjourney, version 6) in dialogue with photographs of vintage children's books and dolls. This visual fusion bridges ancestral memory and contemporary imagination. In a pivotal scene, Little Red Riding Hood emerges from the wolf’s belly—not merely rescued, but reborn. In becoming woman and then wolf, she claims her wild, instinctual power, embodying the ancient truth that transformation requires walking into the woods and facing the darkness within.
