SPICULA is a conceptual fashion series exploring the intersection of speculative biomorphism, couture futurism, and post-human presence. Each silhouette draws inspiration from nature’s defense systems (scales, carapaces, spines) while embracing a futuristic aesthetic where the body becomes an artifact. The design approach fuses iridescent synthetic textures with patterns reminiscent of deep-sea fauna, exotic insects, and mycelial organisms. These garments hover between sculpture and clothing, acting as protective shells, second skins. They suggest a world where fashion becomes armor, and the wearer, a being both fragile and indomitable. Visually, SPICULA channels cyber-oriental atmospheres, futuristic runway codes, and alien luxury. Bodies are decontextualized, ethereal, immersed in a glowing red haze, as if parading through an alternate dimension. This project reimagines beauty in a world shaped by technological, climatic, and identity shifts. It invites a vision of fashion where glamour is inseparable from the living, and clothing becomes speculative poetry.

SPICULA was conceived through an iterative dialogue between human intuition and artificial intelligence. The creative process combined visual prompt engineering using generative AI tools (Midjourney) with manual art direction and post-curation. Each look emerged from a conceptual matrix rooted in biopoetry, speculative anatomy, and material imagination. AI acted as a tool helping generate intricate textures, improbable silhouettes, and surreal atmospheres that challenge conventional fashion paradigms. By pushing the boundaries of what a “body” or a “garment” can be, the project explores how machine learning can serve myth-making, rather than mimic reality. The final selection involved a rigorous curatorial process, ensuring coherence of tone and symbolism, and reinforcing the visual narrative of a dark, futuristic glamour shaped by synthetic evolution.
